There was a TV commercial a year or two ago by attorney John Morgan where he first apologized to all of his friends who were grandparents, because he had always thought that they were a little carried away by their grandchildren. Then he went on to talk about his new (first) grandchild.
I want to preface this devotional with an apology to all my friends who are grandparents. I’m not. And I want you to know that I am more envious of you (and your grandchildren and stories about them) than annoyed by you. I can hardly wait for my turn!
The writer of Proverbs has also made it hard for some of us to wait for our turn:
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged,
and the glory of children is their parents.
Proverbs 17:6
If you have been blessed with grandchildren, consider yourself crowned. And, for all of us who are children, (think about that), and for those of us who have been blessed with children, let’s live our lives so that children might consider their parents to be their glory.
It happens one day, one text or call, and one moment at a time in each relationship.
Prayer
Dear God, help me to consider the family relationships that You have given to me, as I daily follow Your Son, my Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
