Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument off the coast of St. Croix in the Caribbean and is beautiful coral reef teeming with a diverse sea life from a variety of fish, mangrove, coral, sponges, and seagrass. Another hobby I have been able to cultivate and enjoy has been the opportunities to snorkel. A moment of trust, trusting the salty water to hold one’s weight to float. Trusting the calm, cool waters to not enter the face mask or snorkel as I enter the waters and gaze below. Trusting that once I am submerged, I will be feasting on an array of shapes, colors, patterns and sea life just below the surface. And the ecosystem of the coral reef did not disappoint. I am always amazed at the variety, creativity, and joy God must have had in creation. And being able to truly take it all in, as a silent observer, is a gift this creature is too joyful to enjoy.
Prayer
O Lord of the deepest seas, may the bounty of the oceans join us in praises of you. In your care for the smallest sea life to us be a reminder of your endless love. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
