Psalm 19:7-10
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
I was pleasantly surprised to see this year’s Vacation Bible School offer a science station. With an engaging and kind leader, the children experimented with bubbles and gravity, different textures and what kind of weight was needed to sink a foil boat. Some experiments connected with the day’s Bible story, like the foil boats and Jesus’s disciples being caught in a storm. Or the youngest disciples attempted to ground their own barley like Naomi and Ruth. Or some experiments connected with the daily theme, the spark of wisdom like the growth of bubbles. Children then took the time to talk about the various experiments with the scientific method, going deeper to connect how what they have seen apply to their Bible learnings.
Prayer
Surprising Lord, we encounter you in the nature and beauty around us, your creative spark. We thank you for the everlasting life found in Christ Jesus and the surprising reminders. May we continue to explore and learn anew each day, too. Amen.
