TRUTH THROUGH THE SPIRIT

John 16:13

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

Living in a human world, there are so many possibilities of sources, stories, news and tales from all across the spectrum of humanity. As we search and read through the internet, we have to be careful about what we read, is it a good source, and where is the truth. This occurred in humanity long even before the internet. As people gathered in the town square to get their news, it all depended on who you talked to. As humans we often get things wrong and add our own opinions and perspectives. All of us have these perspectives that shape who we are and how we understand the world and we don’t always act in the best interests of ourselves and others.

This John text today helps us understand the work of the Spirit. Because the Holy Spirit is not human and rather directly part of God, the Holy Spirit lives completely in alignment with God’s truth. The Spirit does not act independently or speak without being completely in sync with our God. When we feel the Spirit’s presence in our lives, we can take comfort that this Spirit speaks with the truth of God and will not lead us astray.

God gives us hope through the Holy Spirit. In a world that is often not truthful, we are grateful for the promise of your truth through the Spirit. You give us this direct connection to you that is a constant presence and reminder of your care. As John further writes, “You will know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”

Prayer

God of Truth, we thank you for the connection to you through the Holy Spirit. Thank you for holding us in your truth. Help us to turn to you for comfort, peace, and connection. In all peace, Amen.
