The Holy Spirit Comes Down

Acts of the Apostles 10:44-48

Long ago now … in a Sunday school class far away … some children learned a Bible song that taught a truth about God’s love that they might have believed otherwise was just for children like them. I was one of those children in that classroom and that song is still dear to my heart to this day. Because it teaches that truth, I believe it is still important for children to learn even though it may not be considered politically correct today. That song had these lyrics:

Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world,
Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world!

Today’s reading from the Spark Bible comes from Acts of the Apostles 10:44-48. It is about the Apostle Paul preaching. He has captured the crowds’ attention. Their eyes are on him. They are amazed at what they hear.

“God has plenty of love for everyone,” said Peter. “God loves us all the same.”

Immediately the Holy Spirit came down from heaven. God bestowed this gift on all the people gathered there.

Did the Holy Spirit come into the hearts of the people who followed God’s rules? Yes! God loved them.

Did the Holy Spirit come into the hearts of the people who did not follow God’s rules? Yes! God loved them too. No one is left out of God’s love!

God loves us no matter the color of our skin. God loves us when we follow God’s rules and even when we don’t. God loves us no matter what. It is great to be loved by God and even better when we love God in return. Thank You, Lord!

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for messengers like Peter who share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. We thank You for the Holy Spirit enabling us to love those like us and those who are very different from us. Thank You for loving us when we obey Your rules and even when we disobey them. We thank You for Your unconditional love. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
