28 We know that all things work together for good[u] for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn within a large family. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified.
When I think about the birth of Christ, and the coming of God in human flesh, I sometimes stop to reflect on “Why Jesus came, and how it all works for me?”
There may be no better passage to try and get to the heart of the matter than here in Romans chapter 8.
Being a good Presbyterian theologian, it has all the buzz words: foreknew, predestined, called, elect, justified, glorified.
Each of these words hint at the fact that God has been pulling for us since before we were even born. And since we were born, God has a plan for us as the called and the justified to be glorified.
Jesus coming, just as He did, as an unexpected and uninvited little baby, is the proof of God’s love. And if God loves us that much, to come without our asking, we can be certain that all things will work together so that God’s plan for us might be realized.
It’s good to know who’s in our corner as life’s plan and purpose is coming true.

Great and loving God, thank you for all that you have done for me. Thank you for calling me. Thank you for setting me right with you in Jesus Christ. And thank you for heling me sense your glory as a child of God. Amen.
