8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; you shall not murder; you shall not steal; you shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.
Many of the truths about God for me were planted as seeds in my soul through songs. As I just re-read this passage from Romans, the music started and these lyrics from half a century ago in a youth group song came across my lips.
Love. Love, Love, Love
The gospel in a word is Love,
Love your neighbor as your brother
Love, Love, Love.
Paul reminds us of that. Jesus told that same thing to legal scholars and fishermen alike. That’s what the followers of Jesus come to know in the Word. We are to love as God loves us.
Prayer
Wonderful God, thank you for loving me, and empowering me to love my neighbor. Amen.
