PSALM 74:10-12

I am old enough now to be able to look back and think of the glory days in our nation. It could be $1.00 a gallon gas (and glorious muscle cars guzzling it), sub three percent home loans, or your own version of the USA being a promised land. And I am realistic enough to see that our nation is in the midst of some challenges.

But I do have hope that God wishes us to be a nation under God.

The Psalmist wrote to and for a people whose DNA was that of being God’s chosen. And yet in Psalm 74 we find a “Plea for Help in Time of National Humiliation”

10 How long, O God, is the foe to scoff?
    Is the enemy to revile your name forever?
11 Why do you hold back your hand;
    why do you keep your hand in your bosom?

12 Yet God my King is from of old,
    working salvation in the earth.

If what I read on my dollar bill is right, “In God We Trust”, then I need to be on my knees regularly for this nation that I love. I was playing an old Charlie Daniels CD the other week and his words struck a chord with me — “We’re going to put her feet back on the path of righteousness and then, God Bless America Again.”

Prayer

God. I pray for this nation that I call my home. Help me to do my part as a child of God and a citizen of where you have placed me, to make us a city set on a hill. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
