16 I will come praising the mighty deeds of the Lord God;
I will praise your righteousness, yours alone.17 O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
18 So even to old age and gray hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might
to all the generations to come.
Your power 19 and your righteousness, O God,
reach the high heavens.
This is one of the biblical passages that invites us to think of the life-long journey of faith. The mighty deeds of God are written in the annals of history. (It’s helpful to read the Bible to remember how powerful and active our God has been in the lives of God’s people.) And the mighty deeds of God are recorded in our own personal stories. (Where has God been real and present in my struggles? What blessing has God showered down up me? Where has God redeemed some situation?)
There’s a faith story in our own lives. And now, as the hairs left on my head are mostly gray, I can think back on the many times God has been a mighty force in my life, right up to today, and praise flows from my lips.
Prayer
I do praise you, God, from whom all blessing flow. I thank you for all the ways you have given me a blessed life. I proclaim your might to all who will listen. Amen.
