10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse
nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner,
11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who hope in his steadfast love.
I love the image of God’s steadfast love being a hope for us that exceeds the strength of a horse or the speed of a runner. I’m just that fond of promising that love with those who fear God.
So, in my discomfort, I looked to some other English translations of Psalm 147, verse 11:
CEB
The Lord treasures the people who honor him, the people who wait for his faithful love.
ERV
The Lord enjoys people who worship him and trust in his faithful love.
GNT
but he takes pleasure in those who honor him, in those who trust in his constant love.
TLB
But his joy is in those who reverence him, those who expect him to be loving and kind.
I am ready to be included in those who honor, worship, and revere our God, I hope to be immersed in experiences of God’s steadfast love.
Prayer
As I live this day, O God, let me know firsthand of your steadfast love. Amen.
