Waiting for Divine Redemption
A Song of Ascents.
1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
2 Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!6 my soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is great power to redeem.
As we draw to the end of the season of Lent, and nearly six weeks of waiting for the celebration of Easter, the words of the palmist may express our experience of waiting for God’s blessings. There are times when we cry to the Lord for help or direction. And there are times when the answer seems slow in coming. For me, time seems to often move most slowly as long nights stretch out. (I can somehow identity with watching for the morning …) But in the times that we are left waiting and watching, the psalmist gives us a reason for patience: I hope … for with the Lord there is steadfast love, and the great power to redeem.
Prayer
God, my help, in the dark moments of waiting, let me hope be found in remembering your steadfast love. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
