Proverbs 9:7-12
7 Whoever corrects a scoffer wins abuse;
whoever rebukes the wicked gets hurt.
8 A scoffer who is rebuked will only hate you;
the wise, when rebuked, will love you.
9 Give instruction* to the wise, and they will become wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will gain in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied,
and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
if you scoff, you alone will bear it.
From the lips of Lady Wisdom comes the overarching theme of Proverbs, “the fear of the Lord” is the beginning of wisdom. Grounded in such truth is life and all the peace such assurance provides. And we look to the lives and stories within scripture for such examples of how to live that life. What of Christ’s life do I need to emulate in my own to truly be wise? That is my daily prayer.
Prayer
Holy One, I eagerly wait for that invitation to your banquet. May in being invited, unstop my ears and open my heart for wisdom to be heard and take root. As Christ spoke such wisdom to those first disciples, may I too, have ears to listen. Amen.
