PROVERBS 6

Proverbs 6:6-11

6 Go to the ant, you lazybones;
consider its ways, and be wise.
7 Without having any chief
or officer or ruler,
8 it prepares its food in summer,
and gathers its sustenance in harvest.
9 How long will you lie there, O lazybones?
When will you rise from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest,
11 and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want, like an armed warrior.

This little nugget of wisdom, may not be new wisdom to many of us in our current age of multi-tasking, always available and connected world but maybe, the wisdom is in the foresight, the why? Why exactly are ants so busy and hard working? What wisdom does that ask of us when we think about our own busi-ness? Are we truly busy for the right reasons, or do we need to be sure we know what is truly important, our family, our health, our connections to the Lord Almighty. Pausing and enjoying that doesn’t make us lazybones.

Prayer

Lord God, my rock and my safe harbor, allow the labors of my days truly be good work. Allow me to be present with who and what really matters and silence those distracting notifications that claw my attention away. Ever-present Lord, allow me to be present too. Amen.
