Proverbs 27:1
27 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
Matthew 6:34
34 “So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
I do believe in planning and looking ahead. But there are times when all my concern about tomorrow keeps me from fully experiencing (and enjoying) today. Solomon’s words in Proverbs 27:1, and Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:34, may give me reason to pause and try and appreciate today.
Rev. John Reiter, a dear friend of our congregation, was known to comment about “being present where his feet were.” It’s a pretty good practice to live in the moment, with the people around us at any given time. Let’s try to enjoy their presence, and the other blessings of food, fun, faith, that may come today.
Prayer
God of all time, make me aware of the blessings that are present in my life this day. And make me aware of how my being fully present today with someone else may just be a blessing to them. Amen.
