Genesis 2:15
15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it.
For decades, the Polk Training Center operated a retail plant nursery as a non-profit ministry for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Several of our church families have been active participants at PTC. A couple of years ago, their ministry model shifted to more life skills maintenance than active plant propagation. As the Polk Training Center sold their nursery property and began searching for their next permanent location, they set up residence for their daily activities in the First Pres Girl Scout House. We have loved having the Polk Training Center staff and participants as our new neighbors. They enjoy walking the church grounds daily. And once a week the group comes to McLeod Hall to bag lunches for our Bag Lunch Ministry. (They bag 5 boxes — that’s 70 bag lunches every week. That covers almost two days of our weekly distribution!)
The Polk Training Center receives support from organizations such as the First Presbyterian Church Deacon’s Fund for Local Benevolences. They request prayers to make the most of what they have, reach out to the community, and reach more students.
Prayer
God, as we find worth in our work, we pray for the students and teachers at the Polk Training Center. Give them a sense of joy as they make this world a more beautiful place through their care for one another and others. Amen.
