From heaven to the cradle
From cradle to the cross
Let heaven and nature sing
This is our King
But the grave couldn’t hold Him
Our God has overcome
Let Heaven and nature sing
This is our King—Manger Throne by Phil Wickham
There’s this line in “Manger Throne” that just sums everything up so simply:
“From heaven to the cradle, from the cradle to the cross.”
It reminds us that Jesus went from the perfection of heaven to being a tiny baby in a manger. He traded glory for straw, angels for shepherds, and a throne for a feeding trough. He didn’t have to, but He wanted to. That’s the heart of God right there.
But the song doesn’t stop there. “From the cradle to the cross” means Jesus came with a purpose. He didn’t just come to be born; He came to rescue us. The manger is sweet and beautiful, but it was always pointing toward what Jesus came to do. Jesus came knowing exactly where the road would take Him and He walked it anyway, out of love.
That line is basically the entire gospel in one breath. Jesus came close, stepped into our mess, and gave everything to bring us back to God. From heaven… to a cradle… to a cross… all for you. Christmas and the cross are connected by the same love. A love that goes all the way.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for coming all the way from heaven to the cradle and from the cradle to the cross. Help us remember how big and personal Your love really is and help us live today with that same kind of gratitude and trust. Amen.
