LOST AND FOUND

Luke 15:8-10

8 “Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ 10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

In Luke chapter 15, Jesus tells three parables about “lost and found.” (It starts with the parable of the lost sheep, ends with the parable of the lost son, and here, in between, we have the lost coin. Three times over we are reminded that God seeks us out when we are lost, and rejoices when we are found.

There is an old theological reference to God being the “hound of heaven” who is relentless in the pursuit of lost sinners. It great to know that we are being sought by God’s love, and that God rejoices when we allow ourselves to be found.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for making me, chasing me, claiming me, and loving me. Let me be found each day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
