HYMN 655: WHAT SHALL I RENDER TO THE LORD

Listed in the THANKSGIVING section of the Glory to God Presbyterian Hymnal, this song, What Shall I Render to the Lord, is a paraphrase of Psalm 116. The four stanzas that we find here are selected from the original eleven crafted from the psalm. These four verses help us to focus our gratitude for God’s protection and bounty.

What shall I render to the Lord, what shall my offering be,
For all the gracious benefits God hath bestowed on me?

Salvation’s cup my soul shall take while to the Lord I pray,
And with God’s people I will meet, my thankful vows to pay.

Not lightly dost thou, Lord, permit thy chosen saints to die;
From death thou hast delivered me; they servant, Lord, am I.

Within God’s house, the house of prayer, my soul shall bless the Lord,
and praises to God’s holy name let all the saint accord.

Prayer

Thank you, God, for your protection, gifts, deliverance, and salvation. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
