HYMN 653: GIVE THANKS TO GOD WHO HEARS OUR CRIES

The hymn, Give Thanks to God Who Hears Our Cries is a paraphrase of Psalm 107 by a United Church of Christ minister, Ruth Duck. The Psalm of praise itself speaks to examples of God’s generous love that arises in a person’s need and distress, how the Lord responds with compassion and mercy. Situations, like being locked within a prison, experiencing illness, or facing a violent storm. These situations also echo Biblical stories of faith peoples, like Paul, or individuals Jesus healed. Each example raised following the opening verse, which goes as follows,

Give thanks to God who hears our cries and saves in troubled days with wonderous works to humankind that call for highest praise. Let all who know God’s saving love sing grateful songs always.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, your healing touch brought strength to the week and sight to the blind. We so seek such healing in our own lives. We offer prayers of gratitude when your Spirit has alighted upon us and those we love. We do indeed praise you, you alone! Amen.
