The hymn, How Clear Is Our Vocation, Lord takes an 18th century tune and adds contemporary words, by the author, Fred Pratt Green. According to Rev. F. Pratt Green, he writes new hymns “that fill the gap between the hymns of the first part of this century and the ‘far-out’ compositions that have crowded into some churches in the last decade or more.” And so, with grateful hearts, we too can sing to our faith, especially verse four, as it goes:
In what you give us, Lord to do, together or alone, in old routines or ventures new, may we not cease to look to you: the cross hung upon, all you endeavored, done.
Prayer
Gracious Lord, we remember in tunes of old and words anew your grace and your care for us long after the music fades. Continue to allow us to use such words to express our hopefulness and joy, now and forever, Amen.
