HYMN 172: BLEST ARE THEY

This contemporary hymn, paraphrasing the Beatitudes of Matthew 5:31-16 has a beautiful structure of the Scripture then blessing refrain. This uplifting refrain gives weight to the reversal Jesus Christ speaks to within the Beatitudes of worldly expectations. While the world may speak of power and strength in one way, Christ is clear to a line God’s kingdom with the lowly, those who seek peace and those who show mercy. May the refrain uphold you as well.

Rejoice and be glad! Blessed are you; holy are you! Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God!

Prayer

Dear Lord, as you have spoken on that hill of who will indeed inherit your kingdom, may we embody such mercy. May we be ones who seeks peace and live as children of God, now and forever, Amen.
