EYES TO THE HILLS

PSALM 121: 1-2

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.

Thess opening verses of this Psalm are amongst some of the most beloved lines of scripture for a very good reason. In our world, we spend a lot of time looking down. We have to look where we are stepping and where we are walking. We have to look down at our bank statements. We look down to scrub the dishes and fold the laundry. So many tasks in life consume our time and we spend a lot of time looking down to manage our busy lives.

This Psalm reminds us of the importance of taking a pause in our days and looking up and around us. Take a moment now to look around the room where you sit. Give yourself permission to walk out your door and take a deep breath. When we take time to look around and pause, we are reminded of our Creator who crafted this beautiful world that surrounds us. Although as Floridians we don’t have a lot of hills, when we lift our eyes to beauty of our area, the lakes, trees, and flowers, we can be reminded of God’s power in the world and our lives.

Prayer

Awesome God, thank you for creating this world. Thank you for giving us the beauty of nature to surround us. Help us remember to enjoy the time in the world and be reminded of your constant presence in our lives. In grace and love, Amen.
