Luke 17:7-10
7 “Who among you would say to your slave who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here at once and take your place at the table’? 8 Would you not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me; put on your apron and serve me while I eat and drink; later you may eat and drink’? 9 Do you thank the slave for doing what was commanded? 10 So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, ‘We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!’ ”
If we were created in the image of God, then doing godly things should be second nature to us. With that in mind, we shouldn’t get overly proud or puffed up when we find ourselves acting in a Christ-like manner.
That’s how I have to think when I read this parable.
I am a child of God. I am a servant of Christ. The praise for my good actions comes from the fact that I am functioning the way I was designed.
We learn about being Christ’s followers, so that we should do what we ought to do..
Prayer
God, thank you for showing me the way to live a happy and abundant life as I follow my Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
