SATURDAY SOUP KITCHEN ~ 2024 FUNDING

Galatian 5:22-23

22 By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control ….

Our Saturday Soup Kitchen has allowed our congregation to help feed the hungry in our corner of the world every Saturday since 2004. In the early days, 20-30 people came to our 737 building for our weekly meals. There was a season where we averaged 50-60 diners each Saturday. And in the past year or two, our mission each week has helped an average of 100 of our neighbors, making sure that they have not gone to bed hungry on Saturday.

Our Three Cents a Meal Hunger Offering has provided one source of our Soup Kitchen funding since the beginning. A portion of the tithes and offerings committed to our Deacon’s Fund has also helped purchase the food that is lovingly prepared and served by our many volunteers. And now, for a third consecutive year, the generosity of Homer and Annette Thompson has covered the cost all the food needed for us to operate the Saturday Soup Kitchen for this entire year. As we read in Galatians 5, generosity is one of the gifts of the Spirit. We have been blessed with this generous gift, allowing us to be a blessing to so many hungry people in our community.
