If our church is not marked by caring for the poor, the oppressed, the hungry, we are guilty of heresy.
—Ignatius of Loyola
Where we are today in our lives reflects many influences.
I was raised in a family of believers in Jesus. Both of my parents are Presbyterian Elders. I was blessed to attend Jesuit High School where some great Roman Catholic priests and laypeople modeled the Christian faith (They probably knew this quote from Ignatius Loyola. They certainly lived it). I have lived out the vast majority of my ministry with the saints at First Pres in Winter Haven where we have made and handed out daily bag lunches for nearly four decades, and served a hot meal to hungry people every Saturday for over 20 years.
I pray that our church today would be acquitted on a heresy charge.
Prayer
Great and loving God, keep our ear attuned to your voice, our hearts filled with your love, and our hand busy helping the poor and hungry each day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

This is one of the many reasons I chose to become a member at First Prez. We feed the hungry and participate in meaningful mission trips to Honduras, for example. Thank you, First Prez!
