Psalm 148:7-13
“7Praise the Lord from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps,
8fire and hail, snow and frost, stormy wind fulfilling his command!
9Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars!
10Wild animals and all cattle, creeping things and flying birds!
11Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth!
12Young men and women alike, old and young together!
13Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his glory is above earth and heaven.”
The rain continued to gently mist, pause and then pour as my mother and I arrived at the UNESCO World Heritage site and Antigua National Park, Nelson’s Dockyard. As our day out for an adventure and tour of Antigua turned, surprisingly, into a private tour, we slowly walked the cobblestone streets, studied the buildings and historical markers about the dock. And as the rain paused, but for a moment, we wondered about the people who passed through this historic place. How they would have lived their lives and how much has changed or not for the people who now call Antiqua home. I offered a silent prayer for those who stood in that English Harbor and the lives that were a part of over 100 years of history. What can they continue to share with me and what can we continue to learn about these communities? I pray God’s protection for these communities through today.
Prayer
Ever-Present Lord, thank you for the beauty of Antigua and those communities of the Caribbean as they remember their past and build their future. Continue to be with them and us, travelers who visit their homes, may we all be praising you in our daily lives. In Christ’s holy name we pray, Amen.
