Countless days on a journey that led so far
Endless nights they traveled to follow the star
They did not find a palace, just a humble village home
And searching for a king, but finding a child, no crown, no throne
Still they bowed down
Come let us adore Him
Oh, come let us adore Him
Oh, come let us adore Him—Adore Him by Kari Jobe
The lyrics tell the familiar story of the Wisemen. They followed a star with the expectation of royalty, power, and prestige. After all, if a king had been born, surely he would be found in a palace. Surely the journey would lead to something impressive and obvious.
But instead, they found a child. No crown. No throne. No earthly signs of importance. Just an ordinary stable in a quiet village. And yet this is where they bowed down. Not because the setting made sense, but because the presence of Jesus made everything clear.
Their response teaches us something important: God often meets us in places we don’t expect. He shows up in what looks humble and the Savior who deserves all worship chooses to dwell among the ordinary so we don’t miss Him.
Sometimes we, too, are traveling long roads, countless days and endless nights as the song mentions, hoping for God to show up in big, impressive ways. But the invitation of Christmas is the same one given to the Wisemen. Come and adore Him. In the middle of your normal life, in quiet places, in small moments that feel insignificant, in the humble spaces of your own heart.
Prayer
Jesus, open our eyes to see You in the unexpected places. Help us not overlook the quiet ways You come near. Teach us to bow, to adore, and to welcome You. Amen.
