PSALM 116: 1-5
1 I love the Lord because he has heard
my voice and my supplications.
2 Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord,
“O Lord, I pray, save my life!”
Have you ever had a conversation with someone and you know that they aren’t really listening to you? They might not make eye contact, just nod along in agreement or even walk out of the room while you are in the middle of a sentence. There are many reasons why someone might not fully be listening, but as the one talking it is incredibly frustrating and at times hurtful. We all have a need to be heard in both the small everyday things and the big questions of life. God’s listening ear is one of the most amazing gifts that God provides in our lives. To feel heard is to feel understood. To feel understood is to be loved.
Prayer
Great God, we thank you for always hearing us. In a busy and noisy world, you always make space and time for our thoughts, words, and pleas. Your listening ear is a gift in our lives. No matter where our life twists and turns you hear us completely and are a constant companion. In your sons name, Amen.
