Romans 8:9
But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
When I have had people in my life that have passed, one of the things that always brings a smile to my face is when I can delight in something that they used to do or something that brought them joy as well. My grandfather loved sweets, Little Debbie’s in particular. It was something that as a kid was always an easy gift for him and there really wasn’t anything that he didn’t like. He always used to have the same joke every time my grandmother would take us to a flea market. “Callie, did you buy some fleas while you were there?” Every time it would make me smile and still does when I pass one while driving.
These same feelings of connection happen when we engage with the Spirit of Christ. When we act or behave in Christ-like way, we can channel those same feelings and connection. When we act in giving spirit without promise of reward or notice, we connect to Christ. When we love unconditionally even when the other is not, we live into Christ’s love for all humanity. When we take time to care for the least of those in society or engage in mission work, we celebrate the legacy of Christ’s attention to the weakest of the weak. Often times, engaging in these choices leaves us with a good feeling. Those good feelings that we receive is that Spirit of God dwelling in us calling us and reminding us that we are loved, called to love and to keep going.
Prayer
God of love, thank you for dwelling in us and allowing us the privilege to carry your Spirit with us. Help us to remember your call to listen to this Spirit by being Christ like in all that we do. In God’s grace, Amen.
Amen. Thank you Callie
