Prayer for Guidance and for Deliverance Of David.
1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
do not let my enemies exult over me.
3 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.6 Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!
Body, mind, and soul.
We talk about those components of the human machine. The body is pretty obvious. The mind is what we spend so much time filling. And then we have the soul. It’s that place where we find our contentment, purpose, and meaning. The soul might well be our center. It may also be the place that responds to God’s leading.
In this psalm, David talks about lifting up his soul to the Lord. The very next line mentions trust. (That’s a visceral word. Trust more a feeling than a thought.) And as our soul is lifted up the Lord, we long to be led in God’s ways.
Here in Lent, let’s focus on our soul and revel in God’s steadfast love. (Another feeling?)
Prayer
Wonderful God, let me calm my mind, and rest my body, as I spend some precious moments lifting up my soul to you each day. Touch me with your forgiveness and salvation. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
