Psalm 17:7-9
Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O savior of those who seek refuge
from their adversaries at your right hand.
Guard me as the apple of the eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
from the wicked who despoil me,
my deadly enemies who surround me.

I will have nothing to do with a God who cares only occasionally. I need a God who is with us always, everywhere, in the deepest depths as well as the highest heights. It is when things go wrong, when the good things do not happen, when our prayers seem to have been lost, that God is most present. We do not need the sheltering wings when things go smoothly. We are closest to God in the darkness, stumbling along blindly.
Prayer
Merciful God, thank You for loving us no matter what. We hear throughout scripture how You love us, Your children, even when we make mistakes and even when things are difficult. Strengthen us to recognize Your persistent love, care, and guidance. May we take solace in Your unconditional love and seek to model that type of love as we interact with our neighbors today. Amen.
